Éditions Le Robert announces the release of the new edition of *Le Robert junior illustré* —Canadian edition, a dictionary tailored to the linguistic practices and realities of French-speaking children in Canada, which has been fully updated.

An up-to-date dictionary for today's children

The new edition includes a comprehensive update of all content: definitions, examples, illustrations, appendices, and encyclopedic charts. The editorial team conducted an extensive revision and added numerous words: anime, blob, lockdown, cyberbullying, dys, eco-anxiety, para sports, hyperactive, remote work, vegan…The appendices have been revised to better meet educational needs, and new thematic spreads have been included, such as those on pedestrian safety rules, the pharaohs, and electricity.

A reference tool that is 100% in tune with contemporary Canadian realities

Since its launch, the Canadian edition of *Le Robert junior illustré* has ensured the accurate use of French as it is spoken and taught in Canada. It includes specifically Canadian words and meanings such as maringouin, tuque, cégep, babillard, pouding, clavardage, and pow-wow, as well as adapted definitions for terms whose meanings differ in Europe (for example, cartable). Exclusive content has been developed for the dictionary, such as thematic spreads on hockey, maple syrup, and Canada’s provinces and territories.

A major innovation in collaboration with the Ashukan Institute

The question of the appropriate terms to use when referring to Indigenous peoples is an extremely sensitive and important issue. In response to requests from many teachers, it seemed crucial to address this issue in the new edition, as it is the dictionary’s role to clarify any doubts regarding vocabulary. In partnership with the Ashukan Institute, two double-page spreads dedicated to Indigenous peoples have been added. They explain, in child-friendly language, the appropriate terms to use and clarify which terms are inaccurate or offensive. They offer a concise and accessible overview of Indigenous identities and languages. This is a delicate but absolutely necessary approach to equipping younger generations with the right words.

“Ashukan is proud to have developed four new pages designed to highlight the beauty and diversity of Indigenous peoples in *Robert Junior*. This initiative marks a significant step toward a more just and inclusive society, one that is shaped from an early age.”

Alexandre Bacon, founder of Ashukan
